Our theme for Wearable art was ‘Space and Sci-fi’. For my design I was inspired by space debris and shrapnel, I wanted to incorporated the sharp metallic shapes and loose flowy discarded fabric into my design as well as various tubes and pipes to reference sci-fi space suit designs. I also wanted to incorporate an element of light and an element of movement into my piece. I incorporated light by using translucent EVA foam to build my ‘shrapnel’ pieces on the legs, shoulders and wings, then I painted the inner parts with translucent blue gauche paint. finally I used a series of fairy lights threading threading through multiple tubes to create a glowing look. For the wings I used an umbrella mechanism to allow them to move up and down. This project was made almost completely out of scrap materials.
