Comedy of Errors
Conceptual design project
Costume designer - Riah Betti, Director - Sean Crowley
Comedy of errors, originally written and produced by Shakespeare, was a conceptual design project inspired by Riot Grrrl and 1990s punk/ alternative/ drag clothing in London.
-
Comedy of errors is a comedic play about two sets of identical twins who were separated in a shipwreck and unknowingly end up in the same city, leading to escalating chaos, mistaken identities, and false accusations of madness.
-
For this production I decided to base the costumes on 1990s punk fashion in London, I specifically looked at the impact of figures such as Ru Paul who heavily influenced alternative and drag fashion in the 90s. The Riot Grrrl movement was also a huge source of inspiration for this project. For this production I have gender swapped Antipholus of Ephesus to exhibit the queer punk scene at the time.
