Get to know Me:

Hi I’m Riah! I love everything backstage specifically set and costume design. I am from Manchester and moved to Cardiff Wales for university.

I am currently in my third year studying ‘Design for Performance’ at Royal Welsh College of Music and drama. In my first two years I learnt skills and took part in a variety of design and creation work for theatre and television, such as; costume design/ making, prop design/ making, set design/ making, scenic design and Wardrobe.

Going into my third year I am eager to focus on costume design for theatre and tv as I am extremely passionate about how costume design can elevate a character and love seeing my work translate onto stage and screen. I believe that my work costume assisting, making, dressing and conceptually designing has prepared me for working in the industry.

In university I have worked on a handful of productions, costume making/ wardrobe/ dressing, such as ‘Crybaby’ (for the Richard Burton theatre RWCMD) and Guys and Dolls (for the Sherman theatre Cardiff), as well as creating a variety of conceptual designs, working with a director, for both costume and set.

I previously took part in The royal exchange theatre’s young company program, as part of their 2023-2024 makers group, where I took on the roll of costume designer / maker for Joe Greenway’s original play ‘How do you know what lemons smell like?’. In college I also participated in extracurricular backstage where I did everything from set and costume design/ making (for Six junior edition, Tartuffe junior edition), prop/ set design and making (The Addams Family junior edition) to lighting design and stage management (Little Women junior edition)
