Puppetry
Design and making project
Puppet designer and maker - Riah Betti, 2024-2027 design for performance BA1 class
Puppetry was a first year design project where we designed and created a puppetry show (Team Life) and a roaming floor puppetry (Uranium Monster). these productions were aimed at children and preformed in Techniquest, Cardiff
-
Floor puppetry was a miniature roaming production on the floors of Techniquest. These puppets focused on accessibility and interactivity. For this production I designed an interactive puppet based on uranium glass as it was based in the science exhibit tunnel and allowed for the glass to glow under there UV lights. I designed a Geiger counter puppet as well as various glassware shaped into a Uranium daffodil to reference Marie Curie.
-
Team Life was a puppet centered show based around a child character ‘Life’. As he goes through the stages of life he encounters various medical situations (e.g. needing glasses, breaking a bone, asthma etc.) The aim of this production was to show children not to be afraid of medical staff and that these procedures are sometimes a normal part of life. For this production I created various animation visuals for accessibility as well as props for the production.
